In celebration of 2020/2021
The Years of Coasts and Waters
We are so very fortunate here in Caithness to be surrounded by an
amazing coastline, so diverse to include breathtaking cliffs and caves
and castles. Wondrous arches and sea stacks and Lighthouses galore,
white sandy beaches with beautiful sea-shells seldom found in other
parts of the UK.
We so often enjoy walks along the coastline ourselves, but here we’d
like to share with you an amazing boat trip with Caithness Seacoast.
The spectacular sight of Whaligoe Steps from the sea,
where the fishemen’s wives once carried huge baskets of herrings,
affectionately called the ‘silver darlings’, before carrying them a further
six miles north to sell at the fish markets in Wick.
An array of seabirds are to be seen, Razorbills, Guillemots and Puffins
Our coast offers unrivalled opportunities for birdwatchers. During the spring and summer months, the Caithness
cliffs throng with breeding seabirds. The best time to visit the area is between April and July when the sight, sound
and smell of the birds will be at its height. Each species has unique nesting requirements , so not every seabird
species will be found on every cliff. Where stable ledges occur, Kittiwakes and Guillemots can be abundant, while
Puffins like grassy slopes where they can excavate burrows.
An exhilarating speedboat trip for all to enjoy from the new Pontoon at Wick harbour
‘The Geo Explorer’, is a 33’ Rigid Inflatable boat (RIB) similar to the inshore RNLI lifeboats and takes up to 12 passengers.
Castle Sinclair Girnigoe at Noss Head
The old ruins of the Castle are a spectacular sight from the
sea, with the Lighthouse at Noss Head and beautiful inlets
at Sandigoe Bay and Sinclair’s Beach.
If you’d like a Blast around Wick Harbour or enjoy a Coastal Adventure,
take a look here at Caithness Seacoast where holiday memories are made.
Tours can be booked direct, run daily from April - October (weather permitting)
